Well I havent had much time at all this week for the Lux, the wife has me back into the house renos.

Anyway through the week I started the rewiring and relocated the ECU and igniton modules into the top glovebox. A bit higher than before and a lot easier to get to.

I also sat a tyre in place to start measuring and getting an idea on what the wheelbase will be like.

Started making the new rear crossmember for the links to attach to. I am no welder but I will post this pic so if it looks like itll fall apart people can tell me  And if you only want to flame me then at least make sure its funny :D

Well its been a while as a few changes have been made heres an update.

Quick rundown on current stats,
06 Lux cab
80 series chassis
The dual cabs old 1uz with an auto.
Hilux gear driven top shift case fitted with twin stick and chromo output
Seats, steering wheel and a few other bits and pieces from the old one.
Crackas old 37" treps on 16x10 F rims with 3" back space. It will have a half exo that covers the cab but will not be exod in the front. Although this will lead to carnage I am willing to live with it, to achieve the look I am after.

This vehicle will not be street driven and will be trailered, its main purpose will be for comps. It will be used for social wheeling in the short term until I get another social wheeler built.

The following things are still in planning, colour, suspension, gearing, and a few other things these decisions will be made when they need to be.

I had the opportunity to pickup an 06 model cab at the right price so I grabbed it. It had taken a front hit but I only needed the cab from the firewall back. I also dont need airbags so removing them is not an issue, I bought it without doors or guards as they are too expensive in top condition. James is keeping an eye out for damaged panels that I can purchase at the right price. The guard in some of the pictures is for mock up only. The door is the quality the panels will be, this doesnt concern as I can repair them and they will only get trashed in time anyway. It will run tube doors for most uses anyway.

The cab had a full interior which is great as it means I would not have to make my own dash etc.
The cab when first purchased was as the pics above

First thing I did was to remove the steering wheel with the exploded airbag and see if my old steering wheel would fit or if we would need to graft the steering column from the old single cab in.

Worked well the boss kit fitted straight up, with the only drama being that the horn will not work as the 06 has a ribbon cable arrangement that was removed with the airbag wheel. I will either wire it in or will mount a button on the dash for the horn.

I then started to strip out the interior, wiring and heating and cooling items as they will not be resued. I will be wiring in a custom loom and will be looking into a 12V heater mainly for windscreen defogging.

After this was done I went ahead and removed the damaged front panels from the firewall

While looking around for parts I came across an FZJ80 series rolling chassis. It was a good price and after talking to the usual troublemakers I decided I was going to mount the 06 cab to it.

Bad pic of the chassis

Due to the limited room in my shed and the ongoing renovations at my place. Ben and his family allowed us to use their shed to get the build started. The fact that they have a forklift there also made life so much easier.

So as soon as we delivered the cab we dropped it on for a couple of pics.

Cracka is still using his rims and tyres for the moment so we stole the 37" Claws off Bens MQ shorty to help get the cab set up in the correct position. I also had a guard that although dented was the correct length which allowed us to see where things were going to sit.

After a few hours of moving and measuring we finally got the cab where we needed it. We took two of the original 80 cab mounts and relocated them to where we needed for the rear mounts of the Lux cab.

The front mounts almost line up but we will need to get some plate and extend and modify them to get them in the correct position. I am hoping to annoy Bop for some help with the front cab mounts.

We also cut the chassis off just behind the panhard mount crossmember achieving a fantastic departure angle.

To make sure that everything was as close to level as possible we put 4 of the 37s on. At this time I got all excited and starting taking pics

The later ones with the door on you will the front of the cab is nose down, this is due to us removing the rubber pad the cab sits on. Once we extend the mount and replace this rubber in the new mount the cab will sit level.

Wont need flares as 50% of the tyre will be covered which is all thats needed for comps.

It also has worked out that it is sitting pretty close to intended ride height at worst it will come up 1-2" above where it is now when complete
